Artist Statement

CJ HIGGINBOTHAM
Color, texture, and a touch of whimsy are the key components in my artwork.

By using what comes my way everyday through recycled papers, magazines, and documents as the base component,
I continue to build my work through layering these materials with bright colors and structure to achieve a full and rich color palate to work from. Using my hands, scissors, and other tools, I achieve a unique texture that I apply to my canvas in a layering method so that each area of the artwork is filled with color, dimension, and of course, a touch of whimsical fun that enlivens the walls they hang on.

I find inspiration in cultural references and in the materials I find, and use these to inspire the work I create - artworks so unique that they capture your attention from a distance, then pull you in with their depth.
